A mechanical engineer is designing a device to lift a load of 500 kg. The device consists of a pulley system with a rope passing over two pulleys, as shown in the diagram below. The load is attached to one end of the rope and the other end of the rope is attached to a motor, which can be used to pull the load up. The engineer wants to use the least amount of power possible to lift the load.
The engineer knows that the coefficient of friction between the pulleys and the rope is 0.1 and the radius of each pulley is 0.5 meters.
